I’m a big music lover, I’ll listen to most things and give most genres a try. I’ve got favourites in genres from cheesy pop, rock to classical.

Some songs can take you right back to a particular moment in time and make it so vivid that you can remember exact feelings and smells. Has anyone else ever had that?
I must admit I do like to listen to lesser known bands and artists, sometimes I feel there is more heart and soul in their music (this is not to say it’s true all the time). I love a band that plays their own instruments, just my personal opinion but I feel that’s what makes a band. Watching them get lost in the moment of what their doing is amazing, watching the emotion pass over faces, whether it be joy, sadness or conflict.
A good melody to start will always draw me into a song, then it has to be the lyrics matched with an appropriate voice. I think that’s a big thing is having the tone of the voice match the vocal that’s being sung.
I’m a massive fan of the Weeknd. Yes I know a lot of people will not appreciate his lyrics but if you actually sit and properly listen to a lot of his songs their amazing. My husband despairs every time I put my music on as I cannot switch off the Weeknd’s songs. It sounds cheesy but it speaks to me in a way and brings me a sense of calm. His voice and melodies totally drag me into a different world. I have far too many favourites, every one makes me feel something different.
I could discuss music and artists all day long.
I also appreciate an artist or band who can put a different spin on a song. For example the song “Never Tear Us Apart” originally by INXS has been redone by Paloma Faith and also by a girl called Bishopbriggs. All versions give something different but remain fantastic. Also “Running Up That Hill” originally by Kate Bush and then covered by Placebo, same song but very different and very good.
What are other people’s favourite genres of music? What are your favourite artists and bands? What are your favourite cover versions?
